Hi John,
Yes, the bead is lightweight plastic and hollow. Doesn't add much weight at all. Beads are on their way to you.

Enjoy!
Monte

I would appreciate some beads. I only need a few, then I can take em down to the bead shop and compare. Are the beads hollow? Because you state that it aids in flotation, I would think the weight of the bead would sink the fly. I pulled it out of the box as a cool looking bluegill fly. My address is :

thanks monte

Monte, I grabbed one of your bubble boy emergers out of the perp swap box. I love it. Anyways, where can I get the beads used for the bubble? I also read the write up on the bubble boy emerger on a website but am not sure where now. It was the first one that came up when I typed bubble boy emerger into google.

Anyway, if you could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Hi John,
Thanks for the compliment! That is one of my favorite lake flies. It even won an old VFS dry fly contest a few years ago. Ross seemed to like it. Here are a couple of sites for you:

The bead is a plastic pearlescent craft bead 3mm in size (available at most of the major craft stores - I've never seen them in a fly shop). The scud hook works well because you can get the gap necessary to accomodate the bead, but not too much length for the fly.

I would be happy to send you some beads if you shoot me your snail addy.
