I was reading AK Best where he elaborated on hand positioning. He seems to
make a good case for the collet (I hope I have that correct. I mean the
'horizontal' piece of the vice that holds the jaws) being offset at an
angle. I realise this would not work for rotary vices.
What do people think about:
The point AK Best makes about the angle of the vise and hand positioning?
The advantages of rotary vices?
Can you have the best of both world?
All the best
Graeme

Again this would only be my opinion. I use my traveler for most if not all
of my trout fly tying with the only exception being streamers. After
yanking a few hooks out of the Renzetti at the most inopportune times (i.e.
spinning Deer hair bugs and long streamers) I bought the Dyna King. I tie
a lot of big bugs for saltwater (up to 7/0), streamer (Carrie Stevens) and
Deer hair bugs and I've found the Dyna Kings jaws hold these very well. I
have broken a couple hooks in this vise as opposed to pulling them out of
the vise. I personally don't like the jaws for trout hooks although they
will work well. I have the smaller jaws also for this vice but as I already
own the Renzetti I just use it rather than switch jaws. I had a problem
with the jaws of the Renzetti loosening up when I tried to tie large
saltwater flies and then switch to trout. A gentleman I tie with was able
to adjust and fix it so it is probably the user. :0) I can't compare the
better Renzetti since I don't own that one. I would probably buy the Dyna
King if I could only choose one. I like it's versatility better. I do feel
the jaw design on the Dyna King is much nicer. Again this is just my honest
opinion.
