George,
You have the answer in your post-  "Personally..."
It's a matter of personal preference.

Subject: [VFB] Midge Jaws?

I posted this question on the "VFB Forum" and haven't received a response, so I thought that I might try here.

I can't help noticing that whenever midge jaws are pictured in various publications or books on fly tying, that the concave area is sometimes facing up and sometimes facing down.

Personally I use the midge jaws with the concave area up, which allows for better access to the smaller hooks.

Does anyone else have a preference?

George,

God grant me the senility to forget people I never liked anyway,
The good fortune to run into the ones I do,
