Gary, I just read that, my "carp on the fly" book came today (which probably kicked off the ramblings). Darn, and I thought I had a semi-original thought!
Denis - Unfortunately that was just 100% pure, working to many hours, not catching enough fish, me. No other excuses! Ken (BC) - yes, it did hurt my head! Jimi - I'm still trying to figure out what they preferred. I wasn't ready for carp that day. I had been fishing the saltwater flats with a friend all morning (caught some barracuda & some jack crevalle) and we decided to try one of the "almost never miss" peacock bass lakes. Unfortunately, it missed. But there were a bunch of carp in there. They were tailing, mudding & cruising around. I was sight casting to them but they weren't taking my fly. On an encouraging note, my casts didn't send them running. Couldn't find a saltwater fly they liked and they didn't seem to see an unweighted wooly bugger. Also, these were common carp, and I've been prepping for grass carp, don't know how much difference it will make. The fly I'm tying for the swap is an olive marabou clouser. It looks very "veggie" for the grass carp. Ken
