I should also mention that Andy Burk has a fine Carp fishing article in the March-April issue of California Fly Fisher magazine. His favorite carp fishery is Lake Shasta in the spring. That issue also has an article by Ralph and Lisa Cutter, which is the best I have ever read on the whole subject of surface tension of water and how it traps bugs above and in particular just below the film.

Burk and the Cutters alone are worth the subsciption to the magazine. Many hours of enjoyment and learning. Thanks to founder-editor Richard Anderson (Truckee, California) for such a great publication.

I'm getting carp fever!! Anybody know specific waters where in Oregon, especially the Hwy. 97 corridor or Eugene to Portland where there is a healthy population of carp? Or maybe the Columbia River ponds?

I asked longtime Portland-area resident Max Peel about this, and he said he knows people fish for carp in the various sloughs that parallel the Columbia River and that lie between the river and north Portland. He particularly remembers the area around Terminal 4 as being a favored spot.

This is all Greek to me, but I will be looking into this carp opportunity. Hopefully VFBers in the Portland area will beat me to it.
