Hi Dean,

A #6 Tiemco 800S is the right shape and size, but I would prefer a hook that wasn't 2XH wire. These patterns are for large trout, and I just as soon not harpoon 'em.

Unfortunately, none of the hook references I have seen show what I want. I did see some Eagle Claw Lazer hooks once that were about right, but this store (most likely to have them) did not stock them. The Gamakatsu hooks I bought are more like 1XH wire, just have the danged open eye. Someone suggested I take a pair of pliers to them (which at least may salvage this purchase), but it still would be nice to know the right brand and product number of hook.

WES,

Open eye Siwash hooks are used to replace the treble hook often found on "Irons", heavy or light jigs made from Lead, brass, aluminum or other metals. the Single hook allows more positive hook ups when jigging or casting for various Saltwater Species... thought my Uncle Gus states that they use them for Lake Trout in the deep, cold lakes of the Northwest Territories. Siwash hooks are also referred to as Salmon Hooks...Pacific Salmon that is.... What is the actualy Hook you are looking for??? Maybe I have something thats close & is a Close eye hook...

OK...screwed up a little.

I just bought a package of Gamakatsu 10007 Open Eye Siwash hooks
because they were the closest things to the hook needed for a streamer
pattern I am trying to match.

Didn't realize until I got home that these literally were OPEN EYE
hooks, they are large ring eye hooks that have an an open gap of 1/16"
in the eye. The pattern I am trying to match doesn't use a beadhead,
so that solution is out (seeking to close the gap with a tied head
without ending up with a Frankenstein).

What is the normally accepted practice to tie a streamer head on an
open eye hook?

Why the heck does anybody make an open eye hook in the first place?

Do I just ignore the opening and tie on the tippet and fish as usual?

Help, please!
