Well, with the set backs and other things...I finely made some headway today. I finished up an "Experimental" rod over the last several days. 6'6" converted fiberglass, Osage and Mesquite reel, mesquite reel seat with slip rings and a "Very" unconventional handle material, ( typical of "Desert Eagle Rods"). Took it out to test it with the only line I had, ( and the lightest line I had), a 7 wt. The line really "Loaded" the rod, may have to try to find a 4, 5, or 6 wt to test with, would make for more accurate testing. All in all though the reel performed well, ( still working on a better drag system), the handle was the real kicker though, the wife and daughter both worked it for about 30 minutes each and they loved the new handle and the action of the rod. Amanda did complain a bit as it didn't "roll" cast as well as a longer rod but the feel and grip of the new handle material really made a hit with her. All in all I feel like I have really accomplished something today, may have some pictures to post tomorrow if my friend Jack drops by.
Now, to build an Osage Rod, with matching Mesquite and Osage reel with the new handle, It would definitely be a "Desert Rod" by Desert Eagle... Have a good one folks and "Tight Lines" Jimi
