My favorite pattern is a Gill Getter tied on a #10 or #12 size hook. It's a simple fly, easy to tie. The recipe is both on my site below and on Byard's site. For a small minnow I use a small clouser tied on
a size 12 2X long Limerick hook, replacing the lead eyes with small bead chain. (Here in Louisiana you want the fly to glide just above the weedbeds.) Be sure to trim the wing/tail so it only goes past the bend of the hook about !/4". This will avoid short strikes.
