I recently got my hands on a very nice brand new 36 ft. Double Taper 5 wt line. Only problem is that it came in two pieces, cut for some reason in the middle. I tried tying a tight blood knot and putting a length of heat shrink tubing on it to 'smoothen it out' but it still catches in the guides and sticks as i cast. Any ideas? I just need some sort of smooth, slim connection for the two ends. I thought of just casting one end and leaving the other off the reel, but 18 ft. of line fall short.
Make them into two shooting heads, by stripping the PVC coating at the end and making a loop from the braided core. Or splice like they do when making custom sink tips or other custom fly lines. Instructions should be available on the net. basically, you strip the coating off both ends and connect the cores by whipping over with thread and coating with a PVC compound, or alternatively by making two loops and making a loop-to-loop connection.
