Well, if you can cast across a stream or river, you probably don't need a 
shooting head. But if you want to gain extra distance then shooting heads are 
one way to go.

In a lake or river, a shooting head on a monofilament line will sink faster 
and fish deeper than anyother way of fishing.

I plan on using them to fish for the mega-bows that live in the near by lake, 
and tend to feed in the 20-30 foot range. I also plan to use them to try to 
take ling cod on the fly in the early spring when they spawn.
