I saw one of these in person, can't remember where or what the brand name
was. Was a little put off, if you want bamboo then bye bamboo but I don't
see the point in imitating wood with graphite.

Hexagraph. 'Invented' by Bruce&Walker, UK, and adopted by Powell, then spun off as and independent line. B&W hexagraphs were just plain graphite-black, whereas Powell and later hexagraphs have a wannabe bamboo look.


Basically the material consists of a laminate sheet of (cured) graphite/resin (like the wall of a standard graphite rod, but flat, backed by a thicker sheet of closed cell foam. From this graphite/foam laminate triangular strips are cut and glued up to form a blank, just as you would cut and glue bamboo strips.
