Wes,

I tied some wooly sculpins for the streamer swap(havent received my flies yet) and the red wool works well for the gills.

Hi VFBees,

I would like to collect your suggestions on how to tie reddish gills onto a streamer/baitfish pattern.

Currently I am tying some red seal dubbing in under the hook shank, then trimming, but that is slow, and doesn't look that good. (not that even, fibers all over the place)

I know I could use red yarn or the like and it would be faster and more even. Any particular kind of yarn work the best? (for liveliness, translucency, etc.)

Also have seen and used: a red marker to draw in gills.

Just curious what your favorite technique is?
