Speaking of gills....

Oliver Edwards has an interesting technique for including abdominal
gills on nymph imitations. This is an easy technique. Some may argue
that this is superfluous. Although I do not believe that gills are
necessary (on a nymph) to improve the fish-catching quality of the
fly...I can say that I have caught MANY fish on this type of pattern.
All that aside, however, it is an interesting technique to add to your
arsenal...and surely one that can impress other people who see your
flies (while I do not generally tie to impress people, I do think that
certain characteristics of flies give them a sort of "Bin Appeal"...i.e.
they look good enough to buy. Fly fishers are usually much more
selective than trout....).

If anyone is interested in this technique, contact me off list and I
will get some information out.

Cheers,
Chris
