Hi Folks,

Well, theres no fishing report from this past weekend but I have
something even better. We had nephews and nieces visiting and
the youngest niece Melissa (11 yrs old) asked if she could have a
lesson in fly tying. Well sure, that sounds great says I,
thinking how well do a woolly bugger or two.

As she scoped out the terrain on the tying bench, her main
attraction turned out to be a pile of beetles. So, shifting
gears, we set up for some nice juicy black foam jobs. Working
side-by-side in dueling vise configuration, I would demonstrate a
move which she would then replicate. In cases where it just
wouldnt go right for her, Id also demonstrate directly on her
vise. She was then surprised that I would disassemble the demo
step and make her do it solo. But then of course, a big grin and
high fives took place when she succeeded.

After the beetle was done she marveled at how long it took, but
said Lets do something else. So then, believe it or not, she
selected and we constructed a pair of bead head Foxs Poopahs.
No kidding, singed chenille, tinsel body, tinsel rib, herl
thorax, and mallard flank antennae. Talk about dedicated
concentration! She even successfully wrapped Ice Dub on the
beetle.

This really wore us out, so then it was time for popsicles and
books on the deck.

Next day she asked for a few demos to watch what it was like to
tie different patterns at full speed. I believe that she may be
a prodigy in the making. Well see if shes still interested
when the next visit comes round.
