Wow! What a great weekend of river fishing. Sat morning I took off for the Queet river on the Olympic peninsula its about two hours away from my house. After finding it on the map I decided to fish the Salmon River down to it's confluence with the Queets. Fishing was a bit slow with very low water. I did manage to catch a few nicely colored cutt's though. After I got to the Queets things got very slow. I decided to bag it and go explore some new water. I started toward the Clearwater river but I noticed a lot of weekend campers and traffic. I decided to head to the North fork of the Quinault after fishing the south fork the previous weekend. After getting on the river I hooked into a nice rainbow or was it a steelhead? I have questions I'll get to on my next post regarding this. These guys really jump. What a gas. While I was out I talked to a couple that was fly fishing and the fellow said he caught a couple of Dolly Varden... this conjured up images of Canadian char... I decided to come back the next day right then. The next day I caught my first Dolly. Wow! These char really know how to put up a good fight. He headed down and tried to tangle me around rocks, made hard runs up and down stream and generally put up a wonderful fight. After taking a few pictures I slipped the beautiful fish back to the water... I'll be back. Smiling in Washington, Bill P.
