The idea of floating the salt water in a tube dangling my feet with my bait bucket floating next to me just doesn't seem like a good idea.....    Be thankful they weren't using chum.

Subject: [VFB] trip report... from the salt

Group,

My first Halibut is now a reality. I went down to Santa Barbara Harbor yesterday morning with a buddy. We were there on the water in pontoon boats just after first light. I was fishing a double clouser set up most of the day and the only Hali I ended up catching was on the top fly, an orange on orange spey clouser (bad night at the tying bench). There were another 7 or 8 guys in float tubes (shark doughnuts), all fishing either iron or live bait. Interestingly the guys with the live bait had floating minnow bucket that rode tethered to their boats in a mini float tube. By the end of the day we both had released a just under legal sized hali and headed home. We learned a lot from this first outing in the pontoon boats, now to tye up more flys and watch the tide tables.
