Murf:
I think they would be happy here in Arizona in the
cool mountain streams.

It is not nearly so hot here as Jimmy D's and Murf's
peppers.
Many MD & PA streams had their hatches blown
out. It continues to rain here more than sun near the Mason-Dixon Line
and fishing must be timed to a couple of days after heavy rain. The
peppers and other heat lovers (tomatoes, okra, beans, cucumbers, squash) are
doing well in some regards but disease from fungi has taken the first
squash plant and while the pepper plants are short, peppers are being
harvested. The misses is putting up the first pickles right
now.
Our temperatures are averaging mid 80s this season with lows in
the mid 70s. The whitefly hatch and trico mania is probably spotty at
best. I've tied more flys this summer than caught fish which is
depressing. Took Byard and Howard to a tailwater last month and we did
fine on caddis and droppers. One pool yielded 7 browns since the water
was a bit off color and I never really put the fish down with my crunching
about.
I predict this rainy weather will begin to moderate in the next
few days and the fishing will turn on. Might fish the Yellow Breeches
whitfly hatch, Susquehanna the same and meander a bit through central PA to
some lesser known waters. Any thoughts on the little J? (Little
Juniata) Until further notice, I plan on fishing #16 caddis or Murf's
stimulator/humpy with a PTN/CJ/kkk dropper. Worked well so far.
Need to tie some orange caddis today.
Speaking of tying flys.
What do you do when you have too many flys, too many patterns and plenty of
fly boxes. I've been putting together boxes with themes instead of like
patterns. Example: My first 4x6 box has a row of humpys,
then stimulators, then irresistables, then ants, cdc & elk, tiny
adams/bwos. The top has a few Cjs, lots of wets and emergers and a few
nymphs. The second box is about 3x4 and thin with 100 midges in
it. With those two replacing my usual plethora of boxes, I can
lose the vest and work off a lanyard or maybe a chest pack. Decisions,
decisions.
