Thanks, Bill! Nice to get another's experience with what could be termed a rather odd looking fly. It's hit-and-miss for me on my local rivers, too. Broken water does seem best. It either really works or is alarmingly useless.

But on those magical days...oh man!

Yes I have used it to hang a dropper from. I like to fish it wet or just
below the surface and I usually use it in broken water. You can still see it
really well. Gary uses different dubbing, I believe he dubs in front of the
wing making the wing just a bit further back. I also do not cut foam strips
as he did on his pattern. I have had fish turn from it and I have also
induced a strike to fish that start to loose interest by jerking or jigging
the fly. I was kind of surprised the way the trout attacked it when I was
doing this. I've had only mixed success with the fly on local rivers.
