Ever thought about using the foam that goes under wall to wall carpeting? It is closed celled, more dense, and "tougher" than most packaging foams, comes in several thicknesses, can be bought by the square foot , and is probably readily available no matter where you live. 'Seems like it might be available in neutral colors, too!
