Nooooooo, they never jump, just wrap your line around ANY underwater 
obstacle........lol, one tore apart my tippet going BACK AND FORTH!! over 
the same root mass....

You are right, chubs usually share the water with trout and they usually 
hit surface (dry/emerger) flies.
But from my observations chub do not jump when hooked.
