Variations:
Argentine Blonde (the Original): White Tail, Blue Wing Platinum Blonde: White Tail, White Wing Honey Blonde: White Tail, Yellow Wing Strawberry Blonde: Red Tail, Orange Wing Irish Blonde: White Tail, Green Wing
Tying Instructions:
Thread: Butt section to match Tail, head section to match Wing Hook: Standard Shank Straight ( Mustad 34007 or equivalent ) Tail: Bucktail of the appropriate color for the pattern Body: Mylar braid or Wide Flat Sliver Tinsel Wing: Bucktail of the appropriate color for the pattern Eyes: Optional
Place the hook in the vise and attach the tying thread Take a small amount of Bucktail for the tail, do not stack, but allow the butt ends to come a little more than 1/8" away from the eye. Tie in on top of hook. Tail should extend about 1 1/2 shank lengths beyond bend. Wrap the tying thread almost to the bend. Throw in two half-hitches to lock it down.
Dab some Flexament or Zap-A-Gap onto the wraps now if your using the Mylar Braid. Tie in the Tinsel at the end of the wraps now if your using that instead, then dab the foundation threads with Flexament or Zap-A-Gap.
Cut the Mylar to size (a little smaller than you think, it'll pull and make a nice tight body ), pull out the cord inside and side over shank. Tie in at tail to make a small butt. Throw in a few half-hitches to lock it down. Apply a whip finish, and cut the tying thread.
If your using tinsel wrap in forward in slightly overlapping turns, in either case change the tying thread, if necessary and re-attach at the eye. Tie down the Mylar, if your using that. Throw in a few half-hitches to lock it down.
Take a small amount of Bucktail for the wing and tie it in so that the ends are about 1/2 way down the tail. It should lift slightly from the body, forming a wide, sparse wing.
Trim the butt ends of the wing if necessary, and form a small, compact head. Apply a whip finish, and cut the tying thread. Attach eyes, if desired and apply the cement of your choice.
