Brian,
Thank-you for the interesting links. None seem to carry leveling acid dyes
though. Its surprising how quickly those dyes have dropped out of sight. I
use mostly natural dyes but I would like to experiment with some synthetic
ones.

Brian,
Do you know of a source for the leveling acid dyes? Prochemical stopped
selling them some time ago.

Procion MX works very poorly on feathers. It relies on a highly basic
solution to bond the dye molecules to the substrate (a solution that will
destroy or at very least damage feathers). The best dyes for feathers are
acid dyes. Acid leveling dyes and milling acid dyes will not damage
feathers as the dye bath is acidic. The dyes are colorfast, and results are
more vibrant than Koolaid, Rit, or other union dyes.

Try These:

Keep a notebook of results with different materials, especially when mixing
colors. Most materials have preferences, and what looks like it should be a
5:1 ratio may turn out to be a 25:1 instead. Good luck!

Thanks,
Anyone use the Procion MX Dye for dying feathers?
It's cold water so you don't have the chance to burn up the set.
