Wes:  I agree.  I lived in So. Utah many years, and am
familiar with a lot of the area which Abbey wrote about. 
"The Monkey Wrench Gang", and it's sequel, "Heyduke Lives" 
are favorites.  A bit irreverent, but well worth the read.

Yes, recommended and entertaining reading.  Abbey's
anarchistic novels 
are also provocative reading: The Monkey Wrench Gang, The
Brave Cowboy, 
and The Fool's Progress.
