Rene,

The position or number of guides won't affect the stiffness of the rod very much, if at all, unless you go to the extremes of putting a whole bunch of guides on the rod. What you are doing by adjusting the distance and number of guides on the rod is keeping the line approximately the same distance from the rod, so that you can cast the line better. This happens when you get the optimal position and number of guides by keeping the line from slapping the rod. You may be able to affect the action of the rod by putting intermediate wraps on the rod, this effectively increases the diameter of the rod section at the point of the wrap. You might need to experiment with number of intermediates and their spacing.

List and rod-builders,

question sounds crazy but let's see what it steeres up.

You know, I'm in the process of building a new rod. I've already the blank.

I want to build the rod as stiff as possible. Is there a dependency between the positioning and the number of guides to the stiffness of the finished rod? Or depends the stiffness of the rod from the blank only?

I can imagine that the distance between the guides would modify the finished rod's action a bit. Any knowledge ot there about this?

BTW: The Rhines level is rising slowly. Hope I can return to fishing the Rhine in some weeks!
