For the first time in many years, we're under a "fire watch" in Texas. High winds, 30 - 40 mph across the state and low humidity, (for us) of 30 - 35 % and likely to remain at 40% or below, the rest of the week. We don't have the devastating fires of the far west, no Crown Fires, because we don't have the huge conifers like the western states. But, range fires in the high plains can be devastating. Fires in the Hill Country can also be very bad because of the vegetation of scrub cedar, scrub oak and sage. And, like in California, many people build right in the middle of the scrub stuff. We're keeping our fingers crossed.
