Byard try the vacuum vise mount for your traveler. It works great I can
break a hook without the vise budging!

Subject: [VFB] There's a new vise in town...

Sorry to hit you folks with two commercial posts in a row, but I just
couldn't hold back my enthusiasm. For the last two weeks I've been
playing around with a new vise. The Griffin Montana Mongoose is a
full rotary, extremely well made and functional addition to the fly
tying world.

For the last couple of years I've been using a Renzitti Traveler for
most of my tying...all but the really big stuff anyway. It's a nice
design and ties well in most circumstances. My only complaint was
it's frailty...it's not real stable on a pedestal.

Well, in the last two weeks I've put the Mongoose through it's
paces...I've been tying for the upcoming show season and have cranked
out almost two gross of flies from fine wire size 18's to 2/0 salt
waters. This vise holds them all and holds them well. It's extremely
stable on the heavy pedestal base, even with my McKensie Light
attached. Access to the fly is excellent and aided by the wide frame
which doubles as a hand rest for us older tyers with the caffeine
jitters...;^) Rotary tension is easily adjusted with a single rear
turn screw. Mounting the fly in the jaws is exactly the same as with
the Renzitti.

This is a real gem of a vise and a genuine value at $179. It comes
with both a pedestal base and a c-clamp, a bobbin cradle, a custom
mounted material clip, a ceramic bobbin, a hackle gauge and a padded
hard carry case, plus a lifetime warranty. This is definitely the
best vise in this price range that I've had the pleasure to tie on.

Yep...I still want a LAW vise...I just have to sell a few more hooks
first...;^)
