I have been tying Chronomid Larvae patterns lately and frankly, I'm not sure what hook size is correct.
I use them for Bluegill in larger sizes (#10-#12), but was wondering what would be the actual size of one of these little creatures.
Gary,
Talk about opening a can of worms... chironomid or midge larvae are available in almost every regular hook size under the sun. #10-#22 are commonly possible depending on your location, available species, etc. We got some here and in British Columbia where hatched adults are the size of wasps! Others require the smallest hooks made for fly fishing. Quite a size range, these bugs. For the human equivalent see: Mini-Me to Yao Ming.
