I received some Alpaca wool (black) in a fly swap a few months ago. I assume it is similar to Llama wool.
Very nice material. I tied a simple leech pattern with some of it and it has been a killer pattern for bass. Takes fish when nothing else will. A cliche I know, but true.

Steve, The llama wool makes excellent dubbing. It also works well where you need a soft wing, like on Sea-Run Cutthroat flies. It takes dye very well too. If anyone on this list would like some, send me a SASE (probably a 8 x 11 manila-type would work best) and I'll stuff it full of various colors and send it back to you. (Free, of course!) I've got a gazillion llama fleeces on hand, as I also spin the wool into yarn for knitting.
