Jimmy: I am a music teacher. I spent twenty years teaching
band, choir marching band, pep band show choir in jr and sr
high school. I left that to come to Utah Valley State
College (Orem, Utah) to teach more music. I am now a
"professor" and have been in the business for thirty-two
years. My fly tiying is mostly self-taught, but I have
had my flies in several shops. My tying improved the most
when I started meeting with some of the local tiers, and
learned a few things. Joyce Westphal has been most
influential, along with Karl Barton, and others.
Participating in swaps has been very interesting, and very
informative. I used to trade my flies to a sporting goods
store for other things like a float tube, binoculars, and a
nice Smith & Wesson model 15 rifle in a .270 caliber. Sweet
hunting rifle, but it was stolen this past summer. Like
Tony, I give more flies away than I sell, or use any more.
I use a Nor-vise, and can't imagine tying on anything else.

I warned ya'll that I'd be harassing the lists while I
recuperate from surgery. So far, I've been a "good
boy" and haven't really got onto anyone's nerves,
except maybe DonO, who's aggravated because he didn't
think of all these neat things I've done lately. But,
that's OK. As great and wonderful as DonO is, he didn't
invent me.
So, for my latest endeavor I'm asking one simple question
of you. What do you do for a living? Better put would be,
how do you support your fly fishing habit. I know many of
you on the lists and also know what kind of work you do.
They're all interesting. With the numbers of us on these
three lists, I daresay we cover most all occupations. I
think it would be interesting to all to see the varied
occupations. And Byard, Chris, and Bill, this is Fly
Fishing related. LOL
You can answer this on list or off list, your choice. But,
please answer. I'll compile a composite like I did for
our fishing vehicles.
Have A Great Day!
