The Corps of Engineers just raised the level of Lake Waco 8 feet to
increase the water storage capacity by 30%. This increases the surface
area by 3,000 acres. We have lots of newly flooded timber which will
give this years spawning bass and bream new territory in which to lay
their eggs. I remember back in 1991 when we had the big flood and Lake
Waco rose by 33 feet in December. Us fishermen were not able to get on
the lake until late april, when the level went down enough to re-open
the boat ramps. Spring of 1992 was a banner spawning season and the fry
had lots more places to hide as they grew. And, the bass had gone
unmolested until late April. To put it mildly, there was a black bass
explosion on the Lake. On June 5, 1992, I caught my largest bigmouth
from the lake weighing 9 pounds, 11 ounces. Over the next three years I
caught 8 more bigmouths over 7 pounds. It was like fishing a new lake.
It's going to be a new lake again, only this time the pool is going to
stay at 8 feet above the old level. I'll be able to take my bass boat
way back in the creeks and can get even further back using my pontoon
boat. I'm sure the white bass, (sandies), will be phenomenal next
spring. This means that Lake Waco will be a black bass, crappie, bream
and white bass hot spot for the next 8 to 10 years, and the boat ramp is
only two miles from my house. Halleluja!!
Cheers !!!!
