We did a good bit better than 3 a day but I've gone from skunked on Elk to one memorable day of 70 hookups on Walnut.  The tippet I use in clear conditions is W*lm*rt floro which is about 4x.  Always hold your rod high above your head when they run and turn your tip against the direction they head.  My go to fly was a #12 olive green woolybugger with limited success on pink crystal meth sucker spawn.  We did better with no split shot but I did have some buggers that were weighted.  Most of the fish were holding off the bottom.  As for the riffles, I heartily agree, you get many more fish there than in the pools.  The fish seem more active there.

Landed the most fish (3 each) the coldest day. Water was
clear and low.
Hooked 4 the next day and 3 broke off. We were using Frog's hair
tippet but the fish were very smart and ran for the rocks. Don't know
if I was holding on too tight?
Smallest was 14" largest 26". Early morning was best.
Peach sucker spawn, then small dark nymphs later in the morning.
We were using micro shot and strike indicators. Fish that were
stacked up in the deep holes did not bite much mid day, riffles
produced better results.
