Thankx Joyce, about the only flies i have ever tyed with foam are ant flies. I just don't get a "feel" for foam. You know how materials "feel" in your hands. Spose i'm limiting my creativity, but i just can't get a "feel" for foam. Jim Hatch down in one of the Carolinas tyes these pig flies that are so cool, out of flip flop foam. He sent me one, it's a riot. Got all kinds of Razorbacks, in every color you can think of. He just loves foam. Goes all over the place lookin' for flip flops, LOL. I think he's tying at the Sowbug this year too. Well, thankx again. mark

The question was asked, how to make sure that your fly floated. The easiest
way is to simply tie a bit of foam somewhere to the fly. For instance, say
you are tying a parachute fly of any style. Simply wrap a bit of foam around
the fly, either a tiny strip wound up the shank, not too tight so it doesn't
have all the air squished out, or as a tiny strip from under the parachute
and as a part of the post. There was an excellent article about doing
spinners and Klinkhammers and any other fly this way in one of the past
month's UK magazine, Flytying and Flyfishing. You can adapt a piece of foam
to any pattern that you are tying. Hope this helps. Joyce
