This may sound silly, but on my next trip to Bolivar I'm gonna be outfitted for Black Mullet. I've done a ton of web research on them and from what I've read, they can be caught on a fly. Any fish that likes to run and jump like Mullet have to be a hoot on a flyrod.

Dan and Gary,
When I was stationed at USCG Base Galveston, used to wade fish Bolivar
peninsula and the backwaters of the bay, especially around Bay Cliff and
also float fish it. We had great success with shrimp, Clouser and mud puppy
flies on a 9 wt. Used to catch specks, reds and ounce in a while flounder on
them. Course that was way back in 88, they may have different taste now.

Yessir, I have fished all the way from Sabine Pass to Surfside. Rollover pass is like a carnival, if you fish just the pass itself. It is better to go down the beach a bit and get away from the throngs that fish just the pass. I haven't fly fished there yet, but I will do that this coming year. Bolivar is a bit less crowded to say the least! Good fishing too around the flats and the old fort there near the ferry to Galveston.

I fish Dirty Pelican and Meachum piers, but not with much success. Better
success on the beaches themselves.

Tight lines,

If at first you don't succeed, maybe you shouldn't try sky diving!
