You're going to have a very expensive trip. Cars will get 20-30 mpg, pickups 8-15 mpg, campers 5-10 mpg. Gas is currently $1.50 a gallon. Motels will be $30 to $70 a night. You'll save motel costs with a camper but spend it in fuel. Hitchhiking is not a common practice here. Pricing vehicles . . . you get what you pay for. $3k to $7k should be a dependable vehicle.
