Mornin Wes, Mornin Jimmy-

It was a balmy 2 degrees above zero here in Madras at 0530 when I got up to let the cats out. They didn't stay out long. Been a while since we've had weather like this, I haven't taken the 4Runner out of 4wd in over a week.

Just as an aside, one of the guys who hangs out on a guitar list I'm on lives in Montana. It was -36 a week or so ago. So...now I don't feel so bad.

Arrgh! Record cold in Oregon, hovering around the 1 degree F mark.
Don't think it got higher than +6F yesterday in Bend. Our normal low
for this time of the year is around 27F. One place in eastern Oregon
had -31F! (Still kids' stuff, as when we lived in south central Idaho,
the temps would hit -15 to -25 nearly every winter.)

BUT, the real fun may be yet to come:

The flood in 1964 that they talk about was the worst in Oregon recorded
history. The lower Rogue River and the North Umpqua River from about
the town of Glide on down crested at 100 FEET above flood stage. The
rains melted 10' of snow almost overnight. If you are ever in the town
of Glide (home to Umpqua Feather Merchants and Spirit River flyfishing
products), stop at the river overlook on the west end of town.
Standing watching the confluence of the two rivers, you would have been
underwater in the 1964 flood. That might not sound like much in print,
but when you view the scene, the thought is utterly unbelievable.

The River-

You passers-by who share my journey,
You move and change, I move and am the same;
You move and are gone, I move and remain.
