Hi Gary and All Every summer I fish Chain Pickerel a few times with flies. The takes are very exciting - but the fight is short lived. I use various bugs - Green Machine is good in sizes 2 - 6. Because I usually fish near shore, i like something that will stay just under the water. Sinking stuff works good also but it is to easy to get fowled up where I fish. Fish just at the edge of cover - lily pads for example and have the fish come out to take it. In that way, you'll not get wound up in the pads. It is important to use a foot or so of wire leader ahead of the fly. The spool I have I got from Cabela years ago. It is nylon coated wire 8 lb test. Have a good long pliers for getting the hook out or lots of flies so you can cut them off. They have sparp teeth and can give a nast bite. Have fun Paul --- Gary Miller <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Does anyone here have the skinny on Chain Pickerel. > Flies, tackle, techniques? > > I will be fishing for them here in East Texas the > first weekend in February > and have never done it before.
