Gary, you're right that the SLR will still produce better results than
an affordable digital; it's just that you get to see the result in
moments to see if you need to reshoot. I'd never go back to film again
for flies (unless I needed a wall-size enlargement). Outside, film wins
hands down. You can't repeat the shot of a salmon jumping if the first
one didn't work, or at least you can't if you're trying to replay that
first shot to check it on that little tiny screen.
