Steve: The body color would/should be applied after the elk-hair is tied on, but before it is pulled forward. Apparently the most popular colors are red and yellow, but creativity abounds here, and I'll bet that there are a lot of tiers on this list who use other colors for the Humpy body. Try a chartreuse floss, or even orange chenille. How about tinsel. I've tried them all. If you can make room for all the ingredients, you could try a royal humpy. A peacock body is alway a good color.
