I tie a comparadun type humpy that works really
well.  don't split the wings at all.  Just fold
the deer hair over the abdomen and let it flair
near the hook eye.  A couple of wraps in front of
the wing, whip finish, and voila, a humpy that
floats really well.  You can add some hackle if
you wish, but I don't.
