Rene, just to add to what Greg wrote, there are several species of diving caddis, Phryganea or Rush Sedge is another. They are called that because the adults actually dive from the air in order to break through the surface film and swim to the bottom to lay eggs. On a small scale, it's actually quite spectacular when scores of these insects are dive bombing the surface all around you.
