This month's Fly Fisherman mag has an article on tube flies, listing many advantages and showing some variants. I tie muddlers and Mickey Finns for bass and panfish. The short shank hook seems to catch better and the feathers don't get beaten up. You can mix and match various bodies and use heavy tubes or light tubes to facilitate where you want to fish.
