It's a very good analogy, and I love case studies. I am one in the same. The nerd protector at school. I was the big guy who protected the less famous and shot down the ego's of the infamous. I say why judge someones character based on their look or equipment. These people are outdoors and whether they follow the "Ideals" or not doesnt make them a bad person in fact as you stated -- often times one goes from a lead chucker to a purest in 100% fashon. I was a lead chucker as a kid throwing rapalas for walleye and red devils for muskie. I didnt know that it would be more sporting to catch one on a beautifull blue streamer wading out a few yards with my 7 weight Orvis Rod. I have done that too. As far as "purist" goes this is not in the dictionary but I think it should say "Unwilling to Change" even if it were better for the trout population to take one for the grill every now and then.
