There is a product sold for beading that is called Power Cord. It's clear vinyl of some sort, and is stretchy, but still very tough. Wind some of this over some red yarn. Very good translucent bubble effect.
Another good red flashy product that shows great segmentation is Kreinik #332, fine (#8) braid.
