I loved that story about Skues. I can relate (barely) to it. "I had secured a window seat, back to engine." He is referring to the engine which was a steam train in those days. I can just remember them in post war Britain before they were phased out and broken up for scrap. Nice report about the dark sherry spinner as an additional passenger.I'll have to get that book now!
