I am halfway through Syl Neme's new book on soft hackles titled "Two Centuries of Soft Hackled Flies" and for those really into that genre' of flies it will be a "must have".
In a nutshell it is a survey of literature as it pertains to the soft-hackled spider. In a cursory scan of the content, there are a few glaring omissions such as Jackson's "The Practical Fly Fisher", Skues' "Silk Feather and Fur" and Syl's own "Soft Hackled Fly Patterns" (but I can understand that one) as well as the more recent Roger Fogg and Leslie Magee titles on the subject, which are important books pertaining to the subject matter, but overall it is a very neat book with some good photgraphy that has obviously had a lot of time and effort spent on its production. It's been a big year for soft hackle nuts so far between this book, the intro of Alec Jackson's new hooks and his soon-to-be-released, heavy-wire model. ===== Support FCC decency censorship: Get Dick and Bush off the airwaves. www.geocities.com/salmn8r/northwestcountryflies.html - check it out!
