Well, I bet I am the first aircraft builder/ aircraft business that this has
happened to.
This morning while working in the shop I saw a truck pull up to the
house. As I walked up to it and the driver I noticed that it was from the
state "Livestock Inspection" office. The man gets out of his truck and we
chit chat for a moment then a perplexing question. He would like to see my
"Kennels" and breeding stock. I stood there with a perplexed look on my face
and ask him what he was talking about. He called me by name and said that in
order to breed dogs I had to be inspected by the state and county for health
reasons. Even a more bewildered look from me now. I ask him if he could
explain. He informed me that his office had received a call from a local
woman, (an old bitty that can not mind her own business and insists on
sticking her nose into other folks affairs), and they were told that I was
raising "Pups" without a license and illegally running a kennel. "Now" the
light went on and I eagerly went about showing him my "Kennel". I took him
to the shop and showed him forms, tools, lumbar and even a set of "Sky Pup"
plans. Needless to say he was not amused at driving 70 miles for such a
joke. He did show an interest in the plane though and we had a nice chat
about ultralights and flying.
At my request, and without very much prodding, he did stop by the "Old
Bitties" house and gave here a talking to that will not soon be forgotten.
He told me that he was going to recommend that she "Mind her own business"
from now on and that he had a good mind to call the sheriff out to fine her
for filling a false report. He said that he was also going to let her know
that it would be up to his boss weather or not they send her the bill for
his trip.
Amazing what stories start at the little post office when you are
talking to one neighbor about what you are building in the shop. Wonder what
else I can stir up just by idle chat ?? Oh well, such is life in a "Small"
rural place and a bunch of bored retirees.
