Larry: This Perpetual (PERP) Swap was conceived a year, or year and a half ago. After many swaps on the VFB list, some of the swappers came up with the idea of sending a box around for every swapper on the list to take X numbers of flies out to keep, and contribute X number of flies of their own to put back in, so the number of flies in the box remains the same. The original intent was to keep recirculating the box to the same list. The number of swappers who expressed interest became so large, that it was decided to divide the list into geographical zones. Three zones in the U.S. and one international. Then someone suggested that the boxes be forwarded to all the zones in rotation. It will be a long while before the boxes return to their original zones. Truly a "perpetual" concept. You see some very interesting patterns, very high quality, and new flies every time the box comes around. It seems to work best when the tier/swapper forwards the box ASAP ( which is something I am a bit guilty of disregarding. ) It is always great fun, and very enlightening.. I hope I have covered the essence of the PERP Swap. Anyone else should jump in at this point.
