Just got an email from Dr. Tom in reply to a question I posed to him, based on an email about a rumor that Whiting Farms was dropping the Winger line.
NOT SO ! :o) He's been carefully selecting breeders, especially grizzlies for Adams wingers, and the egg-laying process is in full swing. From them he will select the next, even better, generation of breeders, and sell the harvests to the fanatics. If there are extra, he will introduce them to the market- officially. If not, he will wait until the next generation. The problem: He has so much demand for them (from me and others like me), that he has been unable to supply the demand for them even before they are announced to the retail market. AK Best, Dick Talleur, and many others are all converts to these lovely little feathers. Once he can meet the demand for the fanatics, then he can focus on the retail market and public demand. The retail cost of a hen neck will be $15, and the saddle will be $3. This is the minimum that he can make to allocate the resources he has to breeding this line. The capes are well worth it, as the new ones are selected to provide many small -size 14 through 20- dry fly wings. That's why you can't find them in retail stores. I keep getting all he has extra so you guys can get them before anyone else can, unless AK and Dick got there first, just after me. <G> Thought you should know. The rumor is not true. Don
