What brand is it Iain?   Maybe they sell it here.  I still can't find it in powder only liquid.

i was at the vets today and saw the cans of insecticide thought this stuff might be good for ensuring i dont get any problems.  I use purethum powder now.

Iain,
I am a veterinarian but have never had to doctor any feathers!  I would assume the pyrethrins / permethrins would be OK.  Do you have an infestation?  I so, you could spray them with the above sprays then wash them thoroughly.  The pyrethroids have a quick kill so do not need a long contact time.  They will not, however, kill any eggs that may be present.  You would maybe want to isolate these materials then retreat them in a couple of weeks.  Hope this helps.  Let me know if you have further questions or if I have just confused things.
