Hi Wes   Regarding your third question,  I made some shooting heads this past winter and bought an off brand running line with the same type of large loop.  What it does is to allow you to install or remove te entire shooting head as a coil with out the need to thread it through as one long uncoiled line.  This should prove to be a great help if you were changing line on a steam on in the surf.  With my very limited experience w/ shooting heads so far I haven't found the "hinging" to be a problem, although the thing does cast "different" and I'm not  used to the whole setup yet.  Hpoe this helps a little.   John
